In the publishers very scarce first state binding, with the original four irises to the cover rather than the nine tulips found to the second state. 

The Spoils of Poynton is set is a grand country house, Poynton, full with a carefully cultivated array of furniture and art. The house and its beauty is brought to danger when the son of the matriarch wishes to marry a frivolous woman. Written by Henry James, a nineteenth century American novelist who was a key figure in the transition between literary realism and literary modernism.

Publishers advertisements to the rear. 


CONDITION

In the publishers original cloth. Externally faded to the spine, bumping and very light rubbing to the extremities, and a mark to the front board and spine. Ink inscription to the front free endpaper, hinges cracked but firm. Internally firmly bound with clean and minimal age toning.
