The first edition of the work. First performed at the Repertory Theatre, Plymouth on May 26th 1919.

Scarce.

The work is based upon the last labourers revolt in 1830 and takes place within a six hour period over three acts. Captain Swing demonstrates concepts of justice and changing loyalties in the wake of the Napoleonic Wars and service under Wellington.

Francis Brett Young was an English novelist, poet, playwright and composer known for his description of the sea, war and medical practices, spanning locations from his home in the West Midlands to further afar in South Africa.

The work was one of a number of plays written in collaboration with W. Edward Stirling.


CONDITION

In the original paper wrap. Externally generally smart with chipping and loss to the spine. Handling marks to the wrap. Internally generally firmly bound. Pages generally bright and clean with just some marginal age toning. Ink stamp stating Printed in Great Britain to copyright page.
